Well, Watson, we seem to have fallen upon evil days.
—Sherlock Holmes

The first days of the second TFG administration have gone, I guess, about as expected? He made no secret of his bad intentions, but it has still been weird to watch him, for instance, try to rewrite the constitution, or settle the whole question of gender, by executive fiat.

I’ve only been sort of keeping up… it’s hard to turn on the news these days without feeling a cold chill creep up the back of your neck. I’ve been torn between Not Wanting to Know and feeling like, if I fall a couple days behind, I’m gonna miss the declaration of martial law and be surprised when the stormtroopers show up to take me to the reeducation camp.

Hyperbole? Probably. Hopefully. The problem now is that we truly don’t know how bad things can get. With TFG having been given a free pass to do anything he wants without legal repercussions, it’s only the other branches of government that can stop him from creating a full-on dictatorship, and they have as of late shown no inclination to do so.

Why did John Roberts and co. hand so much power to the Executive Branch, by definition reducing their own? It absolutely mystifies me. Could it be… Satan?

Well, shit. It’s the end of Week 1 of 208 — assuming, again, that elections are still a thing in 2028 — and it’s already exhausting to try to Keep Hope Alive. Politically speaking, it seems like the only options right now are anger and despair.

So, for the record: Fuck Donald Trump. (I feel comfortable using his name in this context.) Fuck all the people who are aiding and abetting him, whether to advance their own aims, out of cult loyalty, or due to sheer cowardice. You fuckers are winning right now, but the pendulum always swings.

Things have gotten real weird real fast, and what did Dr. Thompson tell us?

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

Which I’ve always taken to mean: In times of insanity, the insane will thrive. So amongst the madness I’m going to try to marshal my creativity (which is a form of insanity innit) as a force for good.

The Doctor also told us:

In a nation ruled by swine, all pigs are upward mobile – and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: Not necessarily to Win, but mainly to keep from Losing Completely.

Which seem like words to live by. Winning may be out of the question at the moment, but as long as we can keep from Losing Completely, who knows what the future might hold?
