You know who’s been awfully quiet during this election year? Mike Pence.

You’d think that having a violent mob roam your workplace looking to murder you — while your boss, informed of the situation, shrugged his shoulders and went back to scrolling Twitter — would be what they call a “come to Jesus” moment. You’d think Pence would be out there telling anyone who would listen not to put That Fucking Guy back in the White House.1

But apparently he has calculated that if he’s going to maintain any kind of political career, he can’t afford to alienate the MAGA hordes. Which is kind of hilarious, as they don’t like him, never have and never will. I figure his future potential maxes out at being dogcatcher somewhere. If he was smart he’d join us, publish a book spilling all his inside dirt on TFG, and laugh all the way to the bank.2

Sometimes I wonder, if Pence had actually been strung up that day, would things be different? Would that finally have been a bridge too far for MAGA? Frankly I have my doubts. Would it have prompted some real, tangible accountability to come down on the head of the Orange One, instead of the half-assed bullshit we’ve seen in this timeline? Again, I’m afraid the true answer is not the preferable one.

At least I’d be able to sit here and smugly say, “Mike Pence died for somebody’s sins, but not mine.” That would be something.

Well, I promised to seek positivity, so let’s see what happened today… more bad stuff came out about TFG’s cozy relationship with Vlad Putin. This is hardly surprising but potentially damaging, I guess. It reminds me of the Reagan campaign’s secret negotiations with the regime in Iran when Ronnie was still a candidate, with the difference that in this case any deal would requite the agreement of Ukraine to be implemented. One would assume Zelenskyy’s answer would be “Fuck the both of you, we’re fighting this thing out to the end.”

Oh, and I haven’t yet watched Kamala’s appearance on Colbert. That should be fun. I’ll check in with youse later.
